Management Information Systems

Today, the rapid advancement of information technologies and management science has made it essential for businesses to develop automation and technology-based solutions in areas such as production, business processes, decision support systems, enterprise resource planning, and gaining competitive advantage. In this context, Management Information Systems (MIS) is an interdisciplinary field that combines knowledge of both information technology and business to create solutions that enhance organizational efficiency.

The primary goal of our department is to provide students with a strong foundation in both computing and business, and to train professionals capable of developing the automation solutions required in the business world. For instance, when designing internet-based automation systems such as the ticketing platforms used by airline companies, it is crucial to apply business knowledge effectively in areas like financial management, marketing, and customer relations.

Our Management Information Systems Department offers a four-year program conducted in Turkish. Students receive education in a wide range of areas, including software development, database management, digital marketing, network systems, cybersecurity, web programming, mobile application development, enterprise resource planning (ERP), system administration, artificial intelligence, e-commerce, and digital transformation.

In addition, the program offers a comprehensive curriculum that supports both the technical and managerial foundations necessary for individuals with entrepreneurial ambitions.

Our department will welcome its first students in the 2025–2026 academic year.

With the support of a qualified academic staff and a rich curriculum, our students receive intensive education in computer science and informatics. Through elective courses, they have the opportunity to specialize in the fields mentioned above. Furthermore, double major, minor, and Erasmus exchange programs contribute to both the personal and academic development of our students.

Unlike Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems is a discipline that integrates software and business knowledge. In this regard, it develops solutions tailored to the needs of businesses and customers. Incorporating business insight into the software development process enhances the effectiveness of the solutions produced. For this reason, many computer engineers choose to pursue a master’s degree in business administration after completing their undergraduate studies to bridge this gap.

Our department employs 1 Professor, 6 Assistant Professors, and 1 Research Assistant on a full-time basis. In addition, part-time instructors with industry experience also contribute to teaching.

We offer approximately 40 different elective courses. Upon request, students may also take elective courses from the Department of Data Science and Analytics.

The areas of expertise among our academic staff include software development, network systems, cybersecurity, Linux operating systems, digital marketing, CRM, ERP, e-commerce, web and mobile programming, databases, entrepreneurship, business management and organization, strategic management, and blockchain technologies.

Our department provides internship opportunities for students in the IT sector through its strong industry partnerships. Internship placements are also available within Medicana and Fenerbahçe Sports Club. The Department of Management Information Systems plays a vital role in addressing the growing demand for qualified IT professionals both in Turkey and internationally. Our graduates' career paths are shaped by their chosen areas of specialization, and they are also encouraged to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities.
