As the fourth event in the English Language and Literature Seminars series, “Early Modernist English Poetry and the Avant-Garde: From Theory to Practice” was held on May 20, 2026, at 13:30 in the Library Lobby Area on the ground floor of Block F. During the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğba Karabulut, Head of the Department of English Language and Literature at İstinye University, met with students and faculty members under the moderation of Prof. Dr. Evrim Doğan Adanur.

Beginning her talk by examining the concepts of modernity, modernization, and modernism, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğba Karabulut discussed the emergence and development of avant-garde movements such as Symbolism, Futurism, Cubism, and Vorticism. She examined the reflections of the modern experience, significantly shaped by World War I, in literary and artistic works, using examples to explore concepts such as dynamism, mechanization, multidimensionality, fragmentation, and intertextuality. Karabulut also presented a signed copy of her book Early Modernist British Poetry and the Avant-garde: From Theory to Practice, published by Kriter Publishing, to Ayşenur Toker Zora, an English Language and Literature student who correctly answered a question about modernist Turkish art.
