English Language and Literature

The English Language and Literature program aims to educate individuals who specialize in English literature, which holds a distinguished place among world literatures. The program is designed to develop students’ advanced command of the English language and a deep understanding of Western culture, while also addressing our country’s need for qualified professionals in this area.

In line with this goal, students are equipped with interdisciplinary thinking skills, the ability to establish intercultural connections, and a comparative approach to literary and cultural analysis.

Throughout the four-year program, students explore the various dimensions of literature, culture, and language through a diverse curriculum that includes literary theory, translation, mythology, American literature, and cultural studies. They are also offered the opportunity to learn a second foreign language. As they progress, students may specialize in areas of interest through elective courses in fields such as translation, drama, literary theory, or psychology.

The program ultimately aims to graduate students with a multifaceted understanding of Western culture and to prepare them for interdisciplinary academic pursuits.

Our department aims to educate graduates who are responsive to cultural and social change and who possess a broad, interdisciplinary outlook. Through international collaborations with Fenerbahçe Sports Club and the Medicana Health Group, our students gain valuable awareness and experience in cultural, sports, and social domains.

One of the distinctive features of the FBU Department of English Language and Literature is its applied elective courses, such as Community Translation. These courses allow students to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts, benefiting from the practical opportunities provided by our partner institutions, Fenerbahçe Sports Club and Medicana Health Group.

In addition, students have the opportunity to pursue double major and minor programs in other departments at our university, such as Management Information Systems, Political Science and International Relations, Public Relations and Advertising, and New Media and Communication.

Our graduates are well-prepared for careers in a variety of sectors that require strong language proficiency and cultural awareness, including education, media, diplomacy, international trade, banking, and public administration.
