Psychology is both an academic and applied discipline that examines mental processes and behavior through scientific methods to understand, explain, and predict human actions.
The Department of Psychology offers an interdisciplinary educational program with an extensive foundation designed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge across the theoretical, methodological, and applied domains of the discipline.
The primary aim of the department is to educate competent psychologists who are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand core behavioral and cognitive processes such as lifelong development, learning, motivation, experience, emotion, intelligence, perception, cognition, social behavior, attitudes, and personality.
Psychologists assess psychological issues and behavioral disorders influenced by biological, behavioral, and social factors. They also play a key role in preventing such disorders, encouraging healthy behaviors, and enhancing individuals’ overall quality of life.
Throughout their studies, students explore how behavioral and cognitive functions evolve, the factors that influence these changes, and how related disorders can be identified and treated.
Fenerbahçe University offers Psychology students practical experience through its collaboration with Medicana Health Group. These internship opportunities help students gain professional exposure and explore the subfields they may wish to specialize in, while also contributing to the growing demand for qualified specialists in Turkey.
In the final stage of their undergraduate education, students complete a graduation project under the guidance of a faculty member. This process enables them to synthesize the knowledge and skills they have acquired and supports them in shaping their career goals and focusing on specific areas of interest.
Through the university’s strong ties with Fenerbahçe Sports Club, students also gain opportunities to engage with a variety of institutional settings. Moreover, the international academic staff of the department allows students to stay up to date with global research through access to international publications and academic conferences.
The department’s curriculum includes fundamental courses such as Introduction to Psychology, Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Personality, Methods in Psychology, Interpersonal Communication, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Psychotherapy, Applied Statistics, Neuroscience and Behavior, and Perception, Attention and Learning. The program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in human behavior and to develop their competence in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Graduates of the program are well-prepared for careers in a wide range of settings, including public institutions such as hospitals, psychiatric clinics, schools, rehabilitation centers, correctional facilities, kindergartens, and dormitories, as well as in the private sector and various industries.
