The “Leave No Trace on Campus” project, carried out by Section 1 students of the CEP301 Social Responsibility Project course at Fenerbahçe University’s Faculty of Communication, implemented an important awareness campaign on campus cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
Supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Emine Sırmalı Kayacan and led by Sanira Biiga Baghirova, the project aims to prevent cigarette butts from being discarded on the ground across campus.
Launched with the slogan “Small Ashes, Big Costs”, the project placed cigarette butt collection boxes at the entrances of the university blocks F and B to reduce the environmental damage caused by cigarette waste. In addition to these physical measures, students distributed informative brochures across campus explaining the decomposition time of cigarette butts in nature and their environmental impact to raise awareness. Eye-catching posters displayed in smoking areas reiterated the call to “leave no trace.”
Students from different disciplines at Fenerbahçe University came together to develop this meaningful project. Through their collaborative efforts, they demonstrated that they are not only exemplary in their fields of study but also individuals who are sensitive to society and the environment.
