Organized by the Fenerbahçe University Faculty of Health Sciences under the theme “Diabetes at Work: Notice, Understand, Support,” the 7th World Diabetes Day Event was held with great interest from our students, academics, and expert guests.

The program began with opening speeches by Prof. Dr. Muazzez Garipağaoğlu and Prof. Dr. Şükriye Güniz Küçükgüzel. In the first session, chaired by Prof. Dr. Hasibe Kadıoğlu and Asst. Prof. Dr. Mine Seyyah, Prof. Dr. Yavuz Furuncuoğlu discussed the effects of diabetes on working life, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinan Bayındır addressed the legal framework of diabetes management in the context of patient rights, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Özlem Özden Tunca examined diabetes and workplace stigma from a psychosocial perspective.

In the second session, chaired by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nadide Gizem Tarakçı Filiz and Asst. Prof. Dr. Kadriye Nilay Genç, real-life experiences of employees living with diabetes were brought to the stage. Zuhal Avcı Erdoğan (Finance Specialist), Ali Kadı (Video Editor), and Yusuf Talha Can (Machine Technical & Hydraulic Specialist) sincerely shared the challenges they face at work, their daily routines, and the solutions they have developed while managing diabetes.

The program, which saw strong participation at every stage,from the opening remarks to the panel presentations,was enriched with multifaceted discussions ranging from employee health to legal rights, psychosocial dimensions, nutrition, and lifestyle management. As Fenerbahçe University, we remain committed to strengthening health literacy, increasing diabetes awareness in society, and supporting individuals living with diabetes.
