The academic discussion titled “Women’s Discourse in Digital Gaming Culture”, organized by the Digital Storytelling Club, was held online via Microsoft Teams on March 13, 2026. The event, supported under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Student Research Projects Support Program, featured Tuğçe Çeğil as the speaker. The program, organized by the Digital Storytelling Club, which operates under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ümmühan Molo Karatay, was moderated by Research Assistant Ecem Ergül.

The discussion addressed the representation of women in digital game culture, how gender perceptions are shaped through games, and the relationship between these representations and misogyny. As part of the program, the project titled “An Examination of the Relationship Between the Representation of Women in Digital Games and Misogyny” was introduced. Conducted using qualitative research methods, the study analyzed the game Grand Theft Auto V through content analysis, while the perceptions and discourses of 25 university students regarding female representations were evaluated through semi-structured interviews. The event highlighted that digital games are not merely a form of entertainment but also a significant cultural sphere that influences individuals’ thought patterns, perceptions of gender, and forms of social interaction.

Through this event, participants had the opportunity to gain an academic framework for understanding the relationship between digital game culture, the representation of women, and hate speech against women.
